The Madison Historical Society held the reenactment to mark the 200th anniversary of Marquis de Lafayette’s visit to Madison, then known as East Guilford, in 1824. The event commemorated Lafayette’s return to the United States to celebrate the 50th anniversary of American independence. Lafayette, a hero of the American Revolution, toured America as part of the anniversary celebrations. Following the reenactment, the Madison Center for History and Culture at Lee’s Academy, located at 14 Meetinghouse Lane, held its grand opening.
