North Haven Fair on Sept. 5, Farmer’s Market Running This Fall
NORTH HAVEN
The 82nd annual North Haven Fair is running from Thursday, Sept. 5 to Sunday, Sept. 8 and will bring “family, farm, food, fun, education, and entertainment” to fairgoers, said Jeanne Lewis, an official at the North Haven Fairgrounds.
As usual, there will be amusement rides and plenty of food and drink options, including fair-oriented items such as fried dough and a beer garden, in addition to tractor pulls and motor sports at the event.
The theme of this year’s fair is “Every Day is Earth Day,” a sentiment which will be emphasized by a sustainability garden, along with education on growing potatoes and vegetables and composting. A pollinator garden and native plant garden are other components to the theme.
The fair is evolving with several new additions this year. These include a family center and family oriented games such as a big Connect Four. On the evening of Friday, Sept. 6, there will be teen pop trivia.
A new stage acquired by the fairgrounds near the gazebo will have entertainment playing through the event, while wrestling will be another entertainment feature.
Education seminars will be a part of the fair, featuring cow and goat milking, as well as beekeeping and honey production. There will also be an antique barn “full of antique farm equipment and homemade crafts,” said Lewis.
The fairgrounds will continue its busy activity this fall with its first installment of a farmers’ market featuring North Haven vendors. The market, which started up this summer, brings local food to customers, including jams, honey, and crafts, said Lewis.
While Lewis said there are “limited farms around” in the North Haven area, the fairgrounds official added that the farmers’ market is “growing organically” and propping up local vendors.
The farmers’ market runs every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the North Haven Fairgrounds. For more information on the fair and farmer’s market, visit www.northhaven-fair.com/.
