08/27/2024 09:45 AMAn 82-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Aug. 24, according to Guilford Police.
According to a press release from the Guilford Police Department (GPD), emergency personnel responded to the 1600 block of Route 80 near the North Branford town line for a two-car crash with serious injuries. The Guilford Fire Department provided medical attention on scene, and the two occupants of one of the involved vehicles were transported to an area hospital by ambulance. One of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.
"Unfortunately, that individual succumbed to those injuries at the hospital," police said in a written statement. "Our condolences are extended to the family of the decedent in this difficult time."
Police have not released the name of the deceased, pending notification of family.
The incident remains under investigation with the assistance of the South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit.
A section of Route 80 between Long Hill Road and the North Branford town line was shut down for several hours on Aug. 24.
Police urge anyone who witnessed the accident to contact the GPD at 203-453-8061.
Just a day earlier, on Aug. 23, state police responded to an accident on Route 80 in Killingworth. According to a press release, a 66-year-old man and 58-year-old woman, both of Guilford, were riding a Harley Davidson when witnesses said a Toyota Tacoma ran a stop sign and collided with them near the intersection at Roast Meat Hill Road. The driver of the Tacoma, an 85-year-old man from Higganum, was uninjured. The motorcycle rider and passenger were ejected from the bike and transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
