08/25/2024 07:27 AMA two-vehicle accident Saturday morning on Route 80 tragically caused the death of one individual injured in the crash near the Guilford-North Branford town lines. On Aug. 24, Guilford police reported the deceased, an 82-year old female, was transported from the scene with life-threatening injuries and succumbed to those injuries at the hospital. The name of the deceased was not released pending family notifications.
The accident also caused serious injuries to another vehicle occupant who was transported to the hospital.
The Aug. 24 accident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. Via Facebook, both Guilford and North Branford police departments notified the public to seek alternate routes during the extended period of time that Route 80 would be closed.
Guilford Police Department later issued the following news release on Aug. 24:
The Guilford Police Department responded to the 1600 block of Route 80 for a two-car motor vehicle accident involving injuries. Responding units secured the scene while Guilford Fire Department personnel provided medical attention to those injured. Two occupants of an involved vehicle were transported by ambulance with serious injuries, one of those individuals was reported to have life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, that individual succumbed to those injuries at the hospital. The deceased is an 82-year old female whose name will be withheld until which time the family has had an opportunity to make appropriate notifications. Our condolences are extended to the family of the decedent in this difficult time.
It is the policy of the Guilford Police Department to ensure that all traffic accidents are investigated in a thorough and professional manner. Additionally, the South Central Connecticut Traffic Unit (SCCTU), will provide consultation and comprehensive resources for the investigation of motor vehicle accidents involving serious physical injury and fatal injuries. Route 80 between Long Hill Road and the North Branford line was subsequently shut down for thru traffic while the SCCTU gathered information to investigate the circumstances of the motor vehicle accident.
