Shoreline Village CT Hires New Director of Services
Press Release, Shoreline Village CT
Shoreline Village CT (SVCT), a nonprofit that supports seniors who are aging in their own homes, appointed Guilford resident George DuPont to be the Director of Services. In this role, he will energize the community with increased services and social engagement.
DuPont brings SVCT enthusiasm and vast experience with community-serving as an Ambassador for the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Resource Development Committee for Jordan Porco Youth Suicide Prevention Foundation. With degrees from Yale University and The Wharton School, DuPont has a 45+ year track record of marketing to market Fortune 500 corporations and helping local businesses with employee benefits.
“According to an AARP survey, nearly 90% of older adults wish to remain in their own homes as they age. In the United States one in three people over the age of 65 live alone. The Shoreline Village CT community is designed to support those trends through our programming and services,” commented SVCT Co-President Kate Gill.
SVCT is run by a board of directors and has close to 100 members. Services offered include rides to medical and other essential appointments, help with simple household tasks, and technology assistance. To combat isolation and loneliness, the organization encourages wellness and social engagement with walks, chair yoga, lectures, a book group, “Tea & Talk” conversational groups, lunches, and parties to encourage in-person socialization and connection.
Dupont added, “I am excited to be in this role that helps support SVCT’s mission to help seniors on the shoreline thrive as they retire in place. This is a great organization that provides a lot of services and opportunities to seniors like me who are passionate about staying in their homes as they age.”
Shoreline Village CT (SVCT) was founded in 2013 as part of the national grassroots movement formed with the neighbors-helping-neighbors model. There are roughly 300 villages in the U.S. ranging in size from under ten to several hundred members, each with varied programs and services that reflect the needs of the community.
The Guilford Foundation and the Branford Community Foundation recently awarded grants to SVCT to finance a membership campaign after the lingering effects of Covid. The Board will use this funding for a series of informational coffee and wine & cheese events this fall.
