Heroes Flag Display Returns Aug. 31
Three years after the first flags were planted on the Madison Town Green to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11, the field of flags is set to return on Aug. 31.
Launched as an Americanism project in 2021 by the Madison Exchange Club, more than 250 people purchased an American flag in honor of those who died on 9/11, first responders, and military personnel. Each flag told a story and flew proudly on the Town Green.
The flags will fly again from Saturday, Aug. 31, through Sunday, Sept. 15, with the return of Madison Salutes Our Heroes. According to a press release from the Madison Exchange Club, in addition to honoring veterans, first responders, canines, and those who died on 9/11, Madison Salutes Our Heroes offers an opportunity to purchase a flag for our everyday heroes – a teacher who changed a life or a friend who offered support when it was needed most – those people and organizations that brought light and hope into our lives.
The display will consist of 300 three-feet by five-feet American or K-9 flags with a dedication tag showing who is being honored and by whom. This event draws large crowds during the day, and at night, the flags are illuminated.
An opening ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 1, at 5 p.m. on the Madison Town Green. For more information on how to dedicate a flag, visit www.madisonexchange.org/flags.
