The Branford Historical Society is excited to welcome the Marquis de Lafayette, proudly on horseback, to the Harrison House in Branford to celebrate the bicentennial of his 1824 visit on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. at the Harrison House Museum and Barn at 124 Main Street in Branford.

The Society has planned an unparalleled experience celebrating Lafayette’s Farewell Tour of 1824 - 1825, complete with “Lafayette” himself and honorary guests. Join us as we welcome “The Hero of Two Worlds” and commemorate his role in securing the French troops who provided invaluable support of the American Revolution and the Colonial fight for Freedom.

Be sure to bring the little ones and visit our mobile menagerie of kid-friendly farm animals, generously provided by Fox Field Farm, and join us in a toast of a Colonial inspired beverage known as a ‘Flip’ as we unveil the trail marker that will permanently designate the importance of this momentous occasion. The marker is provided by The Lafayette Trail, Inc. with funding from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.

The Harrison House Museum and Barn will also have tours of the collection including a glass drank out of by Lafayette himself and a Revolutionary War fife.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to wear white as was customary during Lafayette’s farewell tour of 1824.
