Press Release from East Haven Police Department

A shelter-in-place order has been lifted after reports of multiple gunshots fired from a house in the 20 block of Charnes Drive came into the East Haven Public Safety Communications Center at approximately 11:35 p.m. on July 26.

Responding officers quickly set up a perimeter around 27 Charnes Drive while the suspect, later identified as Michael Farino, 42, fired several series of gunshots from the rear of the residence. A shelter-in-place order was issued to area residents as the South-Central Regional SWAT Team was activated.

After a brief standoff, telephone contact was made with Farino by Sergeant Molly Perry, who persuaded him to exit his residence slowly with his hands up. Farino was taken into custody without further incident and was transported to the East Haven Police Department for processing.

With the assistance of Officer Kevin McGuire and his recently certified K-9 partner Gunner, the firearm used in this incident was located hidden within the residence.

Farino was charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, breach of peace in the second degree, and carrying while firearm while intoxicated. Farino is currently being held on a $250,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in New Haven court on July 29.

No injuries were reported during this incident.
