The beloved Branford Jazz on the Green series kicks off Thursday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. with Grammy award-nominated drummer and composer Dan Pugach and his Big Band. As previously reported, Branford’s hugely popular summer jazz series draws between 1,000 to 1,500 people to fill the green in downtown Branford for each performance.
“I cannot wait to perform at the 2024 Branford Jazz Series with my 17-piece big band,” said Pugach. “We’ve been enjoying such immense enthusiasm for the music on my new album, and I’m so delighted to play it at the iconic Jazz on the Green Series.”
Pugach’s June 27 show will feature original compositions from his latest big band Album, “Bianca,” released March 2024 on Outside in Music. A three-time winner of the ASCAP Foundation Jazz Composer Award, and winner of the BMI Charlie Parker Composition Prize/Manny Albam Commission (BMI Jazz Composers Workshop), Pugach is the featured drummer on the 2024 Grammy award-winning album “How Love Begins,” co-produced by his wife, Nicole Zuraitis, and Christian McBride. Lauded for his original music and arrangements, Pugach also leads the Dan Pugach Nonet.
Now in its 16th year, the jazz series is a produced with Branford Parks and Recreation Department and supported by sponsor organizations, including presenting sponsor Premier Subaru and Kia of Branford.
Following the June 27 kickoff, the 2024 series will continue to host free summer shows on the Branford green Thursday nights from July 11 through August 22. All shows begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information visit branfordjazz.com
