Applications Now Being Accepted for Fair Parade

Plans are coming together for the 2024 Guilford Fair Parade on Saturday, Sept. 21., at 10 a.m., rain or shine.  Applications are now being accepted through the parade website guilfordfairparade.com. Look there, too, for more parade information and FAQ.  The deadline for applications is Sept. 1.  Questions can be emailed to guilfordfairparade1@gmail.com

The parade will start at the corner of Whitfield Street and Water Street, march around the Town Green, and exit Boston Street.

We are very pleased to announce that our Grand Marshall this year will be Rick Maynard, past director of Parks and Recreation in Guilford. He retired this year with glowing reviews after 32 years of service to the Guilford Community.

The theme for the parade this year is “Once Upon A Time in Guilford” giving marching units the opportunity to highlight any special attribute of Guilford that they wish.

This is a special event that first began in 1859, along with the first Guilford Fair. The Parade and Fair continue together as a tradition on the third weekend in September. For the last few years, it has been organized by a small group of volunteers who plan the parade for many months.

Over the decades, the parade has grown to include many groups of all ages. An Honor Guard, elected officials, veterans groups, school floats, school bands, community organizations including several nonprofits, the Guilford Fire Department, the Guilford Police Department, youth sports groups, scout troops, tractors, musical groups, and many others help to make this parade inclusive and fun. Every year groups that have participated in the past as well as new groups are welcome.

The Parade Committee, plus many volunteers on the day of the parade, work to make sure the annual Guilford Fair Parade operates smoothly.
