BRANFORD, CT - State Representative Robin Comey received the unanimous Democratic endorsement for the 102nd District at the May 28 meeting of the Branford Democratic Town Committee at the Branford Community Center.
“For the past six years I have been a fierce advocate for my constituents,” said Comey. ”I continue to be motivated by the positive impact that government can make on people’s lives.”
Rep. Comey was first elected in 2018 and is in her third term in office. As House Majority Whip, she serves as a member of the Education Committee, the Committee on Children and the Human Services Committee.
As co-chair of the Early Childhood Caucus she led efforts to secure bipartisan support for a comprehensive early childhood bill focused on more affordable and accessible early care in Connecticut. Comey was awarded with a Children’s Champion award in 2023 and was inducted into the Branford Education Hall of Fame in 2019 for her tireless efforts in improving education in the town.
Comey has been instrumental in securing funds for her community, including an upcoming traffic calming project on Route 142, vital grants for the Branford Counseling and Community Services and the Branford Housing Authority Parkside II affordable housing project. Most recently, she secured funding to help address the contamination at Johnson's Beach in the Short Beach section of town.
"Robin is a tremendous advocate and resource at the Capitol for the people of Branford," said Democratic Town Committee Chair Kevin Coughlin. "I am constantly impressed with her attentiveness and responsiveness to constituent issues. Branford is lucky to have Robin working for us."
“Connecticut has also done more for seniors in the past two years than in the past 30, passing laws that eliminate even more taxes on retirement and providing the largest middle class personal income tax cut in Connecticut history," Comey said in her speech accepting the nomination. “The work ahead is clear, we must protect and preserve women's bodily autonomy and tackle our environmental challenges with the urgency it requires to ensure a future for our children to raise families of their own.”
Comey grew up in Connecticut and has been a small business owner for the last 30 years. As past Executive Director for Branford Early Childhood Collaborative she led local efforts focusing on improving outcomes for children’s health, safety and education. Through her volunteer work, she is widely recognized for her non-profit fundraising, from arts/science multimedia events, raising money for local playgrounds, as a board member for Short Beach Days, and most recently the successful Raise the Roof efforts for the Branford Historical Society.
