Press Release from Chester Rotary

Kellyn Kolber, a sophomore at Valley Regional High School, was selected as the winner of the Rotary District 7980 Four-Way Test Speech Contest, competing against other town winners from the four counties of southern Connecticut: Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and New London.

Kolber first won the contest for Valley Regional High School, then was a winner in a semifinal contest, and then won the final contest. The contest, which is held by Rotary clubs across the United States, challenges students to analyze the ethics of any topic by using the Four-Way Test, which asks: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Kolber’s analysis proposed a law restricting smartphones for youth under the age of 10 due to the emotional impact of becoming involved in social media.
