Stony Creek Brewery, Neighbors, Reach Agreement on Concert Series
An agreement has been reached between Stony Creek Brewery (SCB) and neighboring residents regarding the brewery’s concert series. SCB is located at 5 Indian Neck Avenue.
In separate notifications shared with Zip06/The Sound, SCB owner Ed Crowley and the grassroots neighborhood group Turn It Down! confirmed an agreement had been reached on May 1.
“Stony Creek Brewery is pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with our neighbors to continue our concert series,” stated Crowley. “This is a great opportunity to showcase our wonderful waterfront town and all it has to offer; the upcoming concert series will bring guests from New England and beyond to Branford, giving an economic boost to our restaurants and shops. This process has worked out well for both parties and we appreciate the cooperation of our neighbors.”
Crowley noted the SCB concert series will welcome Steel Pulse on August 1.
Residents first raised the issue of loud music emanating from a large ticketed concert at SCB in October 2022. The Turn It Down! group rallied to cover fees ranging from legal services to hiring a sound engineer.
An email from Turn It Down! notes, in part, “After almost a year and a half of asking the Stony Creek Brewery to Turn It Down!, we reached a settlement agreement with them today in connection with the Connecticut Liquor Control Commission ‘remonstrance’ process.“
The email went on to indicate compromise was made on both sides with the three-year agreement. The agreement limits the SCB concert series to a maximum of four per year, obligates SCB to abide by state and local noise regulations, and requires SCB to pay for professional noise monitoring reports for each concert, which will be supplied to Turn It Down!
Additionally, the email noted the group is recognized by SCB as legitimate representatives of the neighborhood and will have annual review meetings with the First Selectman. Further, the group will approach SCB if concerts exceed the current noise limitations in the future, with the backing of some rights to enforce the agreement.
Barring the agreement reached on May 1, a state Liquor Control Commission hearing on the matter was set to take place on May 2. The hearing was canceled.
