03/26/2024 03:40 PMPress Release from North Haven Girl Scouts
March was a very busy month for North Haven Girl Scouts as the organization was involved in a variety of notable community events.
The Girl Scouts started the month with World Thinking Day, a celebration of international friendship where they learned about the lives of girls in different countries. The North Haven Girl Scouts celebrated along with Girl Scout troops from Hamden and had displays from more than 10 countries. This year's theme focused on global poverty, so each Girl Scout learned a little bit about microloans and trees, and each member brought a canned good to go toward North Haven's Food Bank.
This was followed by Proclamation Day, where First Selectman Mike Freda declared the following week to be Girl Scout Week in North Haven in celebration of the anniversary of Juliette Gordon Lowe's founding of the first Girl Scout Troop on March 12, 1912.
Then, the North Haven Girl Scouts held their first Pinewood Derby. Fifteen Girl Scouts entered the derby, which was run on an official track. There were Girl Scouts from three different levels participating, with Lilly winning the Brownie level, Hannah at the Cadette level, and Emma at the Senior level. Lilly also set a track record.
This event coincided with Girl Scout Cookies arriving in Connecticut and the start of cookie booths popping up all over North Haven. To find out the location of the booths, check the cookie finder at gsofct.org.
