Every child wishes to feel safe, loved, and protected, but sadly, that is not always the case. The CDC estimates that at least one in seven children have experienced child abuse or neglect in the United States in the past year. Children who are abused and neglected may suffer immediate physical injuries, as well as long-term emotional and psychological problems.
Child abuse prevention is an important mission of the Madison Exchange Club, and the organization is hoping to create awareness of the issue with the Wish Upon a Pinwheel End Child Abuse banner that will be displayed on the Madison Town Green throughout the month of April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Blue pinwheels are a symbol of child abuse prevention because they represent the carefree life that every child should have.
The Madison Exchange Club recently made a donation to Children in Placement, an organization that has been on the front lines of the child welfare system for 40 years. Headquartered in New Haven, Children in Placement fights for abused, neglected, and abandoned children throughout Connecticut. Janet Freimuth, executive director of Children in Placement, accepted the check from Jennifer Tung, president of the Madison Exchange Club.
“Children in Placement extends heartfelt gratitude to the Madison Exchange Club for their steadfast support, not only in championing our mission and work, but also in their commitment to the prevention of child abuse and creating awareness of the issue in the community. We are deeply honored to have such an incredible partner by our side,” said Freimuth.
