LaMark Muir Qualifies for State’s Citizens’ Election Program

Press Release from Renee LaMark Muir Campaign

Renee LaMark Muir, the declared Democrat candidate for state representative for the 36th Assembly District representing Chester, Deep River, Essex, and Haddam, has qualified for the state’s Citizens’ Election Program (CEP), which is Connecticut’s clean election funding program. Candidates are required to meet two thresholds to qualify for CEP: collecting donations from at least 150 residents of the district and raising $5,800 in donations. LaMark Muir met the qualification thresholds well ahead of the state’s August 2024 deadline.

The theme of LaMark Muir’s campaign is to make sure that state government is a positive force for the good of all residents and the state. She believes this is especially important when many criticize those who work in the public sector, devaluing dedicated public servants who work hard in all levels of government and state agencies.

“I intend to restore, or at least increase, public confidence and trust in state government. My experience working in government proved that good governance can make a positive difference in the lives of Connecticut citizens, and I intend to continue to mobilize people and state and local systems to do better,” LaMark Muir said.

Drawing upon her experience and expertise as a police officer and professional staff for the state legislature and volunteer in municipal government, LaMark Muir is committed to keeping the towns in the district both vibrant and fiscally sound by promoting economic growth and continuing to protect our environment and natural resources. She will focus on smart crime policies to keep our communities safe from violence and crime. She will fight for the rights of women and all persons.

State Representative Christine Palm, who has served the 36th Assembly District since her election in 2018 and has decided not to seek a fourth term, has endorsed LaMark Muir.

“Renee has exactly what it takes to be an effective public servant. She knows that government, at its best, is a transformative force for good. She has grit and determination, and she loves public policy,” Palm said. “The fact that she has qualified for CEP for ahead of her declared Republican opponent says two things to me: She is already outpacing him in both strategy and elbow grease, and that our towns believe in the Democratic principles of transparency, equal justice, and shared responsibility, which Renee embodies. In these perilous times, we need more candidates who, when they swear to uphold the Constitution, they actually mean it.”

The next step in LaMark Muir’s campaign is to secure the Democratic Party endorsement at the convention in May 2024. LaMark Muir currently has the support of the local Democratic town committees in Chester, Deep River, Essex, and Haddam. She is working to understand what the residents in the district want for their communities and what issues concern them. She will continue to work hard to earn the votes of district residents.
