Intruders Attempt to Steal Residents’ Cat in East Haven Home Invasion

Press Release from East Haven Police Department

On March 17, the East Haven Public Safety Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a resident in the 180 block of Thompson Street reporting a home invasion involving two armed suspects who had just fled the area in a blue BMW.

Upon officers’ arrival, contact was made with residents, who stated that at approximately 3:46 p.m., two male suspects attempted to enter their residence through a rear slider door. The resident stated that attempts were made to prevent the two suspects from entering the house, but they were unsuccessful after one of the suspects kicked through the slider’s glass pane.

Once inside the residence, the two suspects brandished a firearm and demanded the residents’ high-dollar-value cat. After the intruders spent several minutes searching the house for the cat, one of the residents fought off the intruders, who then fled the residence in a blue BMW. Ultimately, the suspects were unsuccessful in their attempts to steal the feline in question.

Detectives from the East Haven Police Department’s Investigative Services Division responded to the scene and took over the investigation, leading them to Hamden, where the blue BMW was located. The vehicle was seized and processed for evidence relating to the investigation.

The investigation revealed that this was a targeted attack between individuals who are familiar with each other. This was not a random incident, and detectives are following up on several leads. No injuries were reported during this incident, which remains under investigation.
