In a thrilling display of camaraderie and sportsmanship, the New Haven Fire Department (NHFD) skated past the East Haven Police Department (EHPD) in the inaugural “Battle of the Havens” ice hockey game. The highly anticipated event took place on Dec. 30, 2023 at The East Haven Memorial Ice Rink, and the atmosphere was charged with high spirits and friendly competition.
The NHFD emerged victorious in a closely contested match, showcasing its skill and teamwork on the ice. The game, which drew a large crowd of enthusiastic spectators, proved to be a memorable experience for all involved.
What made this hockey game even more special was its charitable purpose. The "Battle of the Havens” was organized as a fundraiser to benefit St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, a renowned institution dedicated to treating and curing pediatric catastrophic diseases. The event successfully raised over $3,500 that will go toward supporting the invaluable work carried out by St. Jude's.
On Tuesday, Feb. 27, East Haven Mayor Joe Carfora will present the raised funds to representatives of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in a special ceremony. This presentation will take place at The East Haven Memorial Ice Rink at 10 a.m., providing an opportunity to celebrate the generosity and community spirit that defined the “Battle of the Havens.”
“We are thrilled with the overwhelming support and generosity displayed by our community during the 'Battle of the Havens’ hockey game,” said Mayor Carfora. “This event showcased the friendly rivalry between our local heroes and also highlighted our commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of children through the support of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.”
The success of this event has already sparked anticipation for future editions of the "Battle of the Havens” with organizers expressing their commitment to making it an annual tradition that continues to benefit charitable causes.
