BHS Football Teams Up for CDR Holiday Toy Drive

On Dec. 16, the Branford High School football team collected toys at the high school during a drive up and drop off event to benefit Community Dining Room (CDR) in assisting local families in need of gifts this holiday season. Their next play was to huddle up at Premier Auto Group with the managers of Premier Subaru and Premier Kia, shown here. The auto group also had organized a separate toy collection for CDR which ran from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15. Photo courtesy Mike DeCusati.

An inaugural toy drive effort by Branford High School (BHS) football players scored hundreds of new, unwrapped toys to give to community families in need this holiday season who are assisted by non-profit Community Dining Room (CDR) of Branford.

On Dec. 16, the team collected toys at the high school during a drive up and drop off event. Their next play was to huddle up at Premier Auto Group in Branford with the managers of Premier Subaru and Premier Kia. The auto group’s toy collection for CDR ran from Nov. 1 through Dec. 15.

All of the gifts, together with those collected for CDR by Branford Fire Department (BFD) during its holiday toy drive, were delivered to CDR at 30 Harrison Avenue, to be distributed to over 200 community families in need this holiday season.

Premier Auto Group and BFD generously organize community toy drives each holiday season. While this drive was a first for the BHS football team, it won’t be the last, said BHS Football Gridiron board member Mike DeCusati.

“We’re going to make this a yearly event. We feel that the community, the businesses, restaurants, and our sponsors do a lot to support us, and we just wanted to help the boys give something back to the community,” DeCusati said.
