North Branford’s Angeloni Elected Mayor in Municipal Election


UPDATE: In the election among four candidates to fill three open Board of Education (BOE) seats, a Nov. 12 recanvass due to a close vote between two candidates determined the seat for Democractic candidate Victoria Lanza, with 964 votes, over closely following candidate Jana Balsamo, with 959 votes.

Results verifed by Zip06/The Sound with North Branford's Town Clerk from Election Night on Nov. 7 show North Branford voters have selected long-serving Republican Town Council incumbent Rose Marie Angeloni as the Town's new Mayor for the 2023-2025 term. Angeloni has served consecutive terms on the Town Council since her first elective win in 2009. Angeloni served as Deputy Mayor in the 2017-2019 term.

In addition to Lanza, the additional two open seats on the BOE will be filled by Kim Dawson (R), who received 1276 votes, and Judy Bannon (D), who received 1089 votes.

The Town Council will continue the existing Republican majority for North Branford’s nine-member Town Council, with six Republicans and three Democrats seated.

Mayor Angeloni took the most overall votes among all nine candidates in the uncontested Town Council race, garnering 1420 votes. Angeloni was followed in the polls by GOP immediate past mayor Jeffrey Macmillen, who served his first term on the council in the 2021-23 term. Macmillen, who will serve as Deputy Mayor in the 2023-2025 term, received a total of 1399 votes.

In addition to Angeloni and Macmillen, Republican incumbent reelected Town Council members are, by order of votes: Nick Palladino, 1336 votes; Walter Goad, 1335 votes; immediate past Deputy Mayor Thomas Zampano, 1328 votes; and Ronald Pelliccia Jr., 1274 votes. Democratic Town Council members for the new term include newly-elected member Craig C. Miller, 945 votes; and incumbents Marie Diamond, 934 votes; and Bruce Abelson, 848 votes.

North Branford’s Nov. 7 voter turnout was 24.2%, as determined by 2,275 of the town's 9,389 registered voters coming to the three district polling sites. District 1 had 1,175 electors, or 23.6% of its 4,983 registered voters, turn out to vote. District 2 had a turnout of 658 voters, or 26% of its 2,533 registered voters. North Branford’s newest district, District 3, had a turnout of 442 voters, or 23.6% of its 1,873 registered voters.
