At the Nov. 7 Branford Rotary Club meeting, club members honored a Branford Rotary Club 2023 Scholarship Award recipient, Nicholas Schettino, and his family.

Schettino is now a freshman at Southern Connecticut State College.

Following an outstanding career at Branford High School as a member of the Class of 2023, Schettino has planned a degree in math, a future degree in education, and a career in teaching mathematics on the high school level.

Schettino is presently immersed in advanced courses. In his essay shared with Rotarians during the Nov. 7 meeting at the Parthenon Diner in Branford, Schettino said he believes that the ultimate level in teaching is to use course work as a sounding board for “life lessons.”

Schettino said he had such an instructor and felt he greatly benefited from the experience.

Schettino’s essay also discussed the benefits of service activities for the participants, as well as recipients. It was well written and very well appreciated.

Among several high school scholarships awarded by Branford Rotary Club annually, the club’s Service Above Self Scholarships, chosen by Rotarians, are awarded to local high school seniors, whether they attend Branford High School or another area secondary school. Each of the scholarships is $3,000. When available, new applications for scholarships will posted at branfordrotary.org.
