Thimble Island Brewing to Expand to Second Location
OLD SAYBROOK
The rumors are true: Thimble Island Brewing Company will be opening an Old Saybrook location at 75 Main Street in the near future.
At a Board of Selectmen meeting in September, First Selectman Carl Fortuna revealed that the Branford-based Thimble Island Brewing Company was interested in the property at 75 Main Street, which formerly housed Gargano Pasta and Italian Market.
On Nov. 1, a representative from Thimble Island Brewing confirmed to the Harbor News that the rumors were true.
Founded in 2010 by Justin Gargano and Mike Fawcett, Thimble Island Brewing Company is currently located at 16 Business Park Drive in Branford. The company sells standard varieties of its brews on tap at bars and restaurants and bottles at select stores. The brewery also has a restaurant that serves traditional American pub food.
Thimble Island Brewing representatives did not respond to questions about when the Old Saybrook location will open or what the new location means for the Branford location in time for publication.
The site was most recently Gargano Pasta and Italian Market. Visitors were shocked in August when news broke that the store was going to close.
A Facebook post said, “Being a part of the Old Saybrook community this past year has brought us immense joy. We appreciate the patronage from near and far. This Sunday, Aug.6, was our last service at Gargano Pasta; we know it was sudden, but it was an important decision to make. Special thanks and gratitude to our supportive team, past and present. We could not have made it without our great team.”
