The North Branford Police Department is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a significant grant of $500,000 from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office).

The grant, awarded through the fiscal year 2023 COPS Hiring Program, is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the North Branford Police Department to advancing community policing and enhancing public safety within the community. The COPS Office is renowned for its mission of promoting community policing nationwide and supporting law enforcement agencies in their crucial efforts to maintain public safety.

The North Branford Police Department’s successful proposal demonstrated a strong alignment with the COPS Office’s goals of reducing crime and fostering trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. This grant will enable the North Branford Police Department to implement an essential project that contributes to these overarching objectives.

North Branford Police Chief Kevin Halloran stated, “I am truly thrilled to announce that the North Branford Police Department has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the COPS Office. The grant application was spearheaded by Deputy Chief Lovelace. This grant will make a substantial impact on our ability to enhance public safety and strengthen our commitment to community-oriented policing.

With our current complement of 23 sworn officers, this grant will provide crucial resources that will enable us to further our mission of serving and protecting the wonderful community of North Branford. We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for our residents, and this grant allows us to take significant steps toward achieving that goal. Additionally, this funding will offset the cost of four officers for three years, allowing us to allocate resources more efficiently and make a more substantial impact on the safety and well-being of our community.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Town Council Members Rose Angeloni and Marie Diamond for their invaluable support throughout the grant application process. Their dedication and commitment to the safety and well-being of our community played a pivotal role in securing this grant.
