Madison Historical Society Announces Happy Hour Events
The Madison Historical Society (MHS) will continue its monthly History Happy Hour series on Friday, Oct. 20, from 6 to 7 p.m., at the historic Allis-Bushnell House at 853 Boston Post Road, Madison.
The Oct. 20 event will feature architect Robert Barnett, author of Deconstructing Stone Buildings: a Journey Through New England. In his book, Mr. Barnett takes readers on a virtual journey to 11 pairs of stone buildings and quarries in the six New England states. Deconstruction, as defined in this book, is a process that involves taking apart a building, examining its various elements, searching its historical sources, and ending at a quarry.
The History Happy Hour presentation will offer a brief overview of the book with an opportunity for lively discussion, followed by a social hour. Featured buildings range from the 1820s to the 2020s. Signed copies of the book will be available for sale at a discount.
Additional History Happy Hours of the 2023-’24 season are scheduled for Nov. 17 and Jan. 19, Mar. 22, Apr. 26, and May 26 in 2024. Each event features a brief but fascinating presentation about Madison’s history, followed by a chance to socialize and enjoy adult beverages and hors d’oeuvres in the 1785 Allis-Bushnell House.
The MHS is delighted to partner with the Wine Thief of Madison, which provides adult and alcohol-free libations for this popular series. All adults 21 and older are invited to meet fellow history buffs and discover intriguing history tidbits while enjoying refreshments and a chance to socialize in an intimate historic setting.
To register in advance ($10 for nonmembers and $5 for MHS members) and to learn about other MHS events, visit www.madisonhistory.org. Admission at the door is cash only.
