New Restaurant for Former Bank Location in Clinton
CLINTON
At a meeting on Sept. 11, the Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) approved an application to turn the former Bank of America building into a restaurant on the first floor with an accessory two-bedroom apartment on the second floor.
Three years ago, the former Bank of America branch in Clinton, located at 88 West Main Street, closed its doors. Now, there is a plan to reuse the building for a Japanese food restaurant.
According to the application, the old bank building would be turned into a 60-seat restaurant on the first floor. “The expected hours of operation for the restaurant are from noon to 9 p.m. on Sunday through Thursday nights and from noon to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. The proposed use requires 26 parking spaces, and the applicant has 29 parking spaces,” a statement of use document stated.
The second floor of the building would be turned into a two-bedroom accessory apartment.
The application proposed only minor modifications to the building, such as painting, a new roof, and enclosing a dumpster on the property.
At a public hearing over the application, only one member of the public spoke to inquire about the amount of parking on the property. The parking was deemed adequate for the proposed uses. The commission unanimously approved the application.
Jeffrey Beatty, an agent for the application, said that the restaurant would be serving Japanese cuisine.
“Obviously, the applicant hopes to open as soon as possible, but realistically, I would say maybe a February opening,” Beatty said.
“[The owner] and his team are very excited to open and look forward to providing delicious food to Clinton and the surrounding shoreline citizens.”
