2023 Branford Rotary Scholars Begin College Careers

Press Release from the Branford Rotary Club

Three Branford students of the high school Class of 2023 received the Branford Rotary Club’s Annual Service Above Self Scholarship Award this past summer and are now settling into their new collegiate surroundings. All three individuals proved prolific in activities and achievements while showing a natural inclination toward community service, as well as exemplary leadership skills.

Nicholas Schettino graduated from Branford High School (BHS) and is now attending Southern Connecticut State University. Schettino intends to major in mathematics and pursue a master’s in secondary education, planning to one day become a high school math instructor. He was very active in BHS Model Congress and a member of the BHS National Honor Society.

Lauren McCarthy graduated from BHS and is now at the University of Delaware. She intends to pursue her degree in engineering and envisions a professional career as a civil engineer. She was a member of the BHS National Honor Society and BHS World Language National Honor Society, as well as captain of the BHS state championship field hockey team.

Aurelia Keberle graduated from the Engineering and Science University Magnet School in New Haven and is now attending Yale University. She intends to explore multiple studies, but with a focus on biomedicine and to continue her education through to a master’s/Ph.D. and professional work in the medical field. She earned multiple distinctions and was president of the school’s Executive Student Government.

We feel these students represent not only our town, but a bright hope for the future.

Among several high school scholarships awarded by Branford Rotary Club annually, the club’s Service Above Self Scholarships, chosen by Rotarians, are awarded to local high school seniors, whether they attend Branford High School or another area secondary school. Each of the scholarships is $3,000. When available, new applications for scholarships will posted at branfordrotary.org.
