Press release from East Haven Police Department

The East Haven Police Department (EHPD) has made an arrest in a burglary investigation that occurred on Sept. 24.

On Sept. 24, the East Haven Public Safety Dispatch center received a call from a complainant reporting an active burglary to a commercial building in the 300 block of Bradley Street. The complainant stated that a male with a goatee and glasses operating a silver BMW was currently inside the building, actively stealing items. Responding units located the BMW leaving the scene, but quickly lost sight of it after it fled at a high rate of speed after attempts to stop it failed. It was later determined that the BMW used in the burglary had been stolen.

Photos of the suspect and the vehicle used in the burglary were disseminated to officers, who quickly developed a suspect, later identified as John Kraszewski, 55, of Laurel Street. The stolen items were valued at approximately $20,000.

With the assistance of the East Haven Police Investigative Services Division, several locations known to be frequented by Kraszewski were checked. Investigators ultimately caught up with Kraszewski inside the Birches Condo Complex and took him into custody without incident. Kraszewski was operating the stolen BMW with various stolen items within, including the items stolen from the Bradley Street commercial building.

Kraszewski was transported to the EHPD for processing. It was determined that Kraszewski had several outstanding arrest warrants, which were also served on him.

Kraszewski was charged with the following: criminal trespass in the first degree, larceny in the first degree, possession of a controlled substance, and burglary in the second degree.

An arrest warrant for being in possession of the stolen BMW will be forthcoming.

In total, Kraszewski was held on $141,000 in bonds. He faced a judge on Sept. 25 in New Haven court.
