From Thursday, Aug. 10, through Saturday, Aug. 12, shop, dine, explore—and find some great bargains—during Branford’s Summer Sidewalk Sale in downtown Branford.

The sale is an open invitation to shop the sidewalks and step inside to check out the eclectic offerings at dozens of independent shops and restaurants in the town center.

Husband and wife Vincent Ragonese and Karen Ragonese, who operate side-by-side shops, Spalsh Boutique (offering unique gifts, clothing, accessories, and more at 1010 Main Street), and Down-Towne Medical Equipment (1012 Main Street), have experienced plenty of sidewalk sales. The couple also owned and operated the former Towne Pharmacy at the site through 2019.

For people who aren’t familiar with what’s in store, the sidewalk sale is a great opportunity to view the variety of offerings that can be found downtown, said Vincent Ragonese.

Main Street has grown to include an eclectic mix of shops, a variety of restaurants, and even the cultural and art offerings of the Branford Arts and Cultural Alliance (BACA) gallery at 1004 Main Street.

Ragonese said the sidewalk sale often attracts Branford residents who may not otherwise have thought to stop in at downtown shops for goods and services.

“The sidewalk sales open it up to people. Believe it or not, we hear this constantly—people come by and say, ‘Oh, we live in Branford, but we didn’t even know you were here!’ So the sidewalk sale brings them in, and then they get to know us,” said Ragonese.

Salvatore Esposito, owner of P.S. Fine Stationers at 1028 Main Street, said the sidewalk sale is an opportunity for shop owners to share the wide variety of offerings waiting inside. His shop offers fine gifts for special occasions and everyday celebrations, including jewelry, exceptional home goods, and much more.

“My name says stationery, and we’re more than just stationery, and we have all price ranges,” said Esposito. “When they see our items out on the sidewalk, people stop, look, and the price is great; and then they come in.”

Branford’s Summer Sidewalk Sale takes place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, Friday, Aug. 11, and Saturday,

Aug. 12, with participating businesses offering discounts ranging from 20% to 50 % off selected merchandise.
