08/04/2023 04:30 PMThe annual Community Dining Room (CDR) Ice Cream Social, which drew a crowd of 400 last year, is traveling to the Shore Line Trolley Museum (SLTM) for this year’s big event on Saturday, Aug. 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. The museum is located in East Haven at 17 River Street.
Based in Branford, non-profit CDR serves the towns of Branford, North Branford, East Haven, and Guilford. Everyone—from any town—is invited to come out and enjoy the ice cream social, where family-friendly activities feature treats from Sweet Treats Ice Cream truck, DJ entertainment from Studio 99 Productions, a visit with Curious Creatures (1 to
2 p.m.), the Read to Grow Book Mobile, a Soundview Family YMCA craft table, and CDR glitter tattoo station.
The event’s $5 suggested donation covers the ice cream and activities set for the day, and will also help CDR feed neighbors in need, said CDR Fundraising Coordinator Courtney Rosenberg.
The event will also be a great opportunity for more area residents to learn what CDR offers their shoreline neighbors, as well as the mission and programs of SLTM, another important area non-profit, said CDR Executive Director Judy Barron.
“Each year, this event moves to one of the four towns we service, and we are thrilled to be collaborating at the Trolley Museum for this year’s event,” said Barron. “Stop by and show your support.”
This is the second collaboration with the trolley museum and CDR. In April, a “Fill the Trolley” CDR food drive was held at the museum, with great success.
Barron said CDR will continue to bring events into the four communities it serves, such as this summer’s menu of nine CDR Summer Meals on the Green, rotating into the four communities on different Tuesday evenings.
“We are thrilled to see this event, like our Summer Meals on the Green, travel to our other catchment areas,” said Barron. “It is bringing more awareness to the other towns we serve that we are here for those in need with meals and referrals. It’s a time for the community to get together and support one another through all the different journeys they may be facing and remind one another that we are here for them.”
In addition to SLTM, CDR thanks Ice Cream Social event sponsors The Community Foundation of Greater New Haven, Branford Community Foundation, GSB, Soundview YMCA, Read to Grow, SPI Inc., Terry and Bruce Albert, and Mosiac Marketing, Printing & Signage.
