Press Release, Branford Compassion Club

Branford Compassion Club (BCC) will hold a Wishes for Whiskers Kitten Shower Friday, Aug. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Joseph Trapasso Community House, 46 Church Street, to help refill its food and supply coffers after a record kitten season which is still in full gear with 70 kittens in foster care at various member’s homes.

The feline rescue and adoption organization, based at 2037 Foxon Road, North Branford, plans a fun evening with food, refreshments, raffle baskets and games for all ages. Event space is limited, please RSVP in advance to mjohnson27@snet.net.

The “cost” of admission is a gift of food supplies, monetary donations or gift cards. Visit branfordcompassionclub.org for a complete list of goods needed for the kittens and their moms.

“Every spring we send out a kitten appeal to our donors, and this year we decided to add a kitten shower to the calendar,” said Peg Johnson, the event chairperson and former BCC president.

“It’s basically a food and supply drive, but we’ve added the fun of games, raffles and refreshments. It’s also an affordable event for those of our followers who want to give and participate but can’t always afford to attend our major fundraisers,” she added.

It’s the first Kitten Shower since 2011, when BCC, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, opened its shelter, though that was combined with an adoption event. While there will be no adoptions here, guests will get to meet a pair of kittens representative of the nearly 70 moms and kittens that have been in foster care with BCC volunteers preparing them for adoption into forever homes.

“A huge part of our work is getting them healthy and into loving homes,” says Kate Krier, a BCC adoption coordinator. “They often come to us with parasites, upper respiratory infections, and it really takes a lot of work to get them healthy.”

Interested future kitten or cat owners should fill out an adoption application on the BCC website at branfordcompassionclub.org. The shelter is open every second Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, visit branfordcompassionclub.org
