Election Slates Take Shape in Clinton

The Republican and Democratic town committees, along with the Green Party, have officially announced their respective slates for the upcoming municipal election. The slates are led by the candidates for the open seats on Clinton’s Town Council.

Under the charter that went into effect in 2019, the Town Council members serve staggered terms so that the entire council can’t be voted out in one election. The initial council had four members who served a four-year term and three members who served a two-year term. In this election, all elected council members will serve a four-year term.

Each election year, the town’s major parties hold meetings in July to form a list of candidates for the ballot in November. At those meetings, the party formally nominates and endorses candidates for each seat that is up for grabs.

In Clinton, the Democratic Town Committee (DTC), as well as the Republican Town Committee (RTC), held meetings on July 20 to officially nominate their slate.

Should any member want to force a primary election of an endorsed candidate, primary forms must be filed by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9.

Those interested in primarying a major party candidate can contact the registrar of voters the day after the party endorsements are handed in. The secretary of state’s office would then determine how many signatures are needed to force a primary.

Democratic Candidates

The DTC state is highlighted by Town Council nominees Hank Teskey and Brian Roccapriore. Teskey is a current member of the council.

For the Board of Education, the DTC nominated Jason Adler and Alan Samet.

The Police Commission nominee is Paul Melanson.

For the Planning & Zoning Commission, the DTC nominated Zack Plourde and Jay Mandel.

The Zoning Board of Appeals nominees are Tom Shultz for a full seat and Maureen Noonan for an alternate seat.

Margaret Testoni is the lone nominee for the Board of Assessment Appeals.

Republican Candidates

The RTC slate is highlighted by the endorsed trio of Chris Aniskovich, Carol Walter, and Dennis Donovan for the Town Council. All three candidates are incumbents.

For the Board of Education, the RTC nominated Catherine Staunton and Lawrence Pilcher.

The Republican Planning & Zoning Commission candidates for a full seat are Eddie Alberino, Adam Moore, and Dylan Walter. Lawrence Edwards was nominated for an alternate seat.

Bruce Farmer and David Carroll were nominated for the Board of Police Commissioners.

The nominees for the Board of Assessment Appeals are David Roberts for a full seat and Brian Manware for an alternate seat.

Rounding out the slate is the nominees for the Zoning Board of Appeals: Robert Corson and Michael Shove for full seats and John Harrington for an alternate seat.
