Quinnipiac University Appoints Hernandez Director of Educational Leadership Program
Press Release from Quinnipiac University
Hamlet Hernandez has been appointed director of the educational leadership program and assistant teaching professor in the School of Education at Quinnipiac University (QU), according to an announcement made by Anne Dichele, dean of the School of Education. Hernandez started his new role July 5.
“Professor Hernandez is well regarded throughout the state of Connecticut as a leader and innovator in public education,” Dichele said. “Hamlet will bring to Quinnipiac’s Educational Leadership Program an expertise as a leader and change agent for public education that is unmatched. We are so grateful as a School of Education to have someone of his caliber and reputation join us.”
Hernandez will oversee Quinnipiac’s online sixth-year diploma program in educational leadership, which prepares educators to extend their impact beyond the classroom in leadership or administrative roles. Students enrolled in the 33-credit program complete authentic leadership training that prepares them to sit for the Connecticut Administrators Test and receive the 092 Connecticut State Department of Education endorsement. They also learn how to manage a school, develop effective instructional programs, and lead overall improvements in school culture and climate.
“I’m excited and grateful to work with the talented and devoted School of Education faculty to prepare the next generation of school leaders,” Hernandez said. “The QU educational leadership program enjoys a wonderful reputation, and I look forward to working with the faculty to produce exceptional leaders ready to achieve excellence in education.”
Hernandez comes to Quinnipiac from the Branford Public Schools, where he served as superintendent for 13 years before retiring in June of 2023. Prior to arriving in Branford, he served as an assistant superintendent, principal, elementary, middle school, and bilingual teacher.
Hernandez earned a bachelor’s degree in political science, a master’s degree in reading, and a sixth-year professional certificate in educational leadership from Southern Connecticut State University. He completed his teaching preparation program at National University in San Diego. He also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1982 to 2004, retiring as a lieutenant colonel.
