06/29/2023 07:49 AMThe Daytime Gardeners of North Haven participated in the North Haven Library Summer Reading Carnival, offering the opportunity for children to plant a marigold to take home.
Children were encouraged to transplant their marigold from the cup to their gardens at home and then watch it grow and bloom. The marigolds were not yet in blossom, and so the children will be able to experience the fun of watching it form a bud and then seeing the bud open into a beautiful flower. The children were given some directions about plant care, including the need to water plants, as well as the importance of planting these flowers in the sun. Ninety marigolds were planted by the children to take to their homes.
Guests visiting the event had the opportunity to talk with the garden club members and ask questions about the plants and vegetation on their properties. Many community members showed interest in environmentally correct plant care and the importance of planting native species and removing invasive plants. They enjoyed taking time to chat with the gardeners.
The Daytime Gardeners of North Haven is welcoming new members and encourages guests to attend the programs offered throughout the year. For more information about the club, contact Daytime Gardeners at 203-239-1557.
