Arts Council to Host Clinton Arts Festival
The second annual Clinton Arts Festival will be held Saturday, June 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pierson School Lawn. The free event will feature over 40 local and international artists as well as local food trucks.
The event is being organized by the Clinton Arts Council (CAC) after a successful inaugural event was held in 2022.
“We are thrilled to bring the Clinton Arts Festival back to our community,” CAC President Steve Van Ness said in a statement. “This year’s event boasts an incredible range of talent, exciting new additions, and a celebration of creativity that truly reflects the spirit of Clinton,” he continued.
Van Ness said that the 2023 iteration will be over double the size of last year.
“Last year, we had around 18 artists. This year we have 40,” Van Ness said.
The festival will include a wide variety of artists and mediums. There will be activities for children, local artist Logan Cummings painting a live mural, art from Morgan School students, as well as a couple from Afghanistan showcasing visual arts.
Professional mural artists affiliated with statewide public art nonprofit The Rise Up Group create live murals. Attendees can partake in silent art voting by purchasing tickets and placing them in the jar of their favorite mural. Money raised will go toward offsetting the cost of the festival. The mural with the highest number of tickets will win a cash prize, and all completed murals will be
Available for purchase.
Additionally, this year there will be a beer and wine garden featuring selections from Chamard in Clinton as well as Tapville Social. For food, there will be food trucks from Chow Restaurant.
“I’m excited that not only will Clintonians be aware, but we really advertised this along the shoreline to get the word out, and I think it will really have a cultural and economic impact,” Van Ness said.
Van Ness said that the festival was made possible in part by American Rescue Plan Act money as well as donations from Clinton Insurance Center and the CAC. “The town deserves credit. This is an investment in economic development and bringing people to downtown,” Van Ness said. “We made it more diverse, bigger, and more interesting this year. I’m really excited,” Van Ness said.
