The Clinton Art Society (CAS) recently honored artists Betty Shea and Sister Joan Bernard for their achievements and service by presenting them with Lifetime Membership Awards during the opening reception of the Spring Members Exhibition. The show is on view through Thursday, June 22 at Andrews Memorial Town Hall at 54 East Main Street in Clinton.
Betty Shea is a 40-year member of CAS. She served as treasurer for many years, using business experience to lead the financial direction of the group.
“Betty is an energetic volunteer and led important efforts such as obtaining non-profit status for us,” said former CAS president Liz Egan.
Shea continues to create inspiring watercolor paintings. She is an enthusiastic supporter of several community organizations, including the Clinton Historical Society and Clinton Land Trust.
Sister Joan Bernard has been a 30-year member and tireless volunteer for the CAS, where she has co-chaired exhibits and coordinated volunteers. As part of the Dominican Order, Sister Bernard leads retreats and also offers spiritual direction and counseling both at her office in Madison and on Zoom.
“Despite her busy schedule, Joan continues to find time to create beautiful art. She is always willing to volunteer for CAS and help in any way she can,” said CAS president Robin Hammeal-Urban.
CAS is a vibrant arts community with members from across the state working in all fine art media. The organization sponsors art exhibits, plein air painting events, and online critique sessions. New members are welcome. For more information, contact the CAS at casclinton@gmail.com or visit clintonartsocietyct.org.
