05/25/2023 07:51 AMA North Branford teenager has been identified by East Haven police as the victim of a May 23 fatal assault involving a knife, which took place outside of an East Haven elementary school after school hours. The teen later succumbed to his injuries at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was transported from the scene of the incident.
East Haven Police Department (EHPD) issued an update on May 24 that the victim of the fatal assault had been identified as Dustin Cecarelli, 15, of North Branford.
“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to Dustin’s family and friends during this difficult time,” stated EHPD at its Facebook page.
As reported by EHPD, on May 23, officers were dispatched to Tuttle Elementary School at 6:28 p.m. for a report of an altercation between several individuals. Arriving police determined a juvenile, later identified as Cecarelli, had been assaulted and injured with a knife during a physical altercation involving several people.
East Haven Fire Department personnel treated his injuries at the scene and he was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
As reported by EHPD May 23, “...while details regarding this incident will be forthcoming, we want residents to know that all involved individuals in this altercation have been identified, are accounted for, and no threat to public safety exists. This is an active and ongoing criminal investigation. We are working closely with the State’s Attorney’s Office and information regarding pending charges will be forthcoming.“
