05/19/2023 07:52 AMOn May 16 at its Facebook page, Branford Police Department (BPD) announced golf cart inspections will take place at the Pine Orchard Club Pro Shop on Saturday, June 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The inspections are required to ensure public safety when golf carts are operating on roadways. In Branford, properly inspected golf carts which are registered with the town are allowed to be operated only on roadways within established boundaries of an area restricted to the Pine Orchard section of town.
Owners of golf carts passing BPD inspection receive a certificate of compliance. That allows the owner to register the golf cart with the Town of Branford’s tax collector for a $25 fee. The owner will receive a registration sticker that should be applied to the left rear bumper of the golf cart with the owner’s name and expiration date.
As previously reported, in July 2022, a rising number of golf cart operators were seen operating on local streets outside of the Pine Orchard boundaries.
BPD noted that properly inspected, registered golf carts are allowed to operate in the established boundaries; and only during daylight hours on roads with a speed limit of 25 miles per hour or less. The carts need to be equipped with operable horn, display a fluorescent yellow 10”x10” flag mounted behind the driver’s side of the golf cart, and have with operable brake lights. The golf cart operator must possess and carry valid CT operator’s license and valid insurance card during operation.
Operators with homes outside of the established boundaries are not allowed to drive their golf cart from their house to reach Pine Orchard.
