Branford 'Stamp Out Hunger' Food Drive Set for May 13
Branford’s U.S. Postal Service letter carriers are ready to help “Stamp Out Hunger,” once again, when their annual collection effort rolls around on Saturday, May 13 to help neighbors in need. Carriers will pick up donated non-perishable food items left in bags at mailboxes on Saturday, May 13 and deliver them directly to non-profit Branford Food Pantry (BFP).
BFP, which supplies weekly supplemental groceries to Branford families in need, relies on the annual “Stamp Out Hunger” drive as its single largest donation event of the season. Based on previous years, this year’s collection is counted on to drive in average of 6,700 pounds of food in one day.
Over the past year, BFP has continued to see a steady rise in families and individuals seeking assistance. The increase has caused a shortage in certain items which BFP hopes community members will include in their donations May 13. These items include canned meat (beef, pork or chicken), juice, almond milk, canned tomatoes and canned fruit. Visit branfordfoodpantry.org for a list of more donation suggestions.
The community can help by bagging up donations of non-perishable food items and setting them by the mailbox ahead of regular mail collection time on Saturday, May 13.
Located in the lower level of the Patricia Andriole Volunteer Services Center on Harrison Avenue, BFP serves the Branford community by providing weekly groceries to families in need, and full turkey dinners for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
