North Haven Police Make Second Arrest in Bomb Threat Hoax

Press release from North Haven Police Department

The North Haven Police Department (NHPD) has made a second arrest in relation to a bomb threat that was ultimately determined to be a hoax.

On March 3, the NHPD responded to the Cinemark Theater on Universal Drive for a report of a bomb threat. It was relayed to NHPD officers that a caller had contacted the theater and stated that multiple explosives would go off at the 9 p.m. showing of the movie Creed III. Additional police personnel were sent to the theater, along with investigators.

NHPD personnel consulted with the New Haven Police Hazardous Devices Unit and theater management. The decision was made to conduct a sweep of the theater with trained technicians and K-9’s. North Haven investigators worked on identifying and locating the suspect(s).

While the protective sweep was occurring, detectives identified and located a suspect. An interview was conducted, and based upon the interview and additional evidence connecting them to the incident, Christian Cuomo, 18, of Wallingford was arrested. Cuomo was in custody of NHPD as of 7:30 p.m. that day, and the threat was deemed to be a hoax.

The investigation subsequently revealed that a second suspect was involved, and North Haven investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Tyvon Torres, 19, from Wallingford. Torres was charged with breach of peace and for falsely reporting an incident.
