A Partnership for Haiti
Christ Episcopal Church Guilford celebrates its ongoing partnership in mission with the New York Haiti Project’s St. Luke’s School and Church in Martel, Haiti. The Reverend Sam Owen, a co-founder of the project, recently visited with parishioners at Christ Church to provide updates on the organization’s work in Haiti with building a new school and church and serving the people of the community. He reported that ongoing violence in Haiti continues to make the work extremely challenging, but through faith and perseverance, over 150 children in this small village, two hours north of Port au Prince, can now attend school and receive nutritious meals daily. Recently, parishioners from Christ Church were part of a group at the Haitian Church of the Good Samaritan in the Bronx that helped to pack over 50,000 high-protein meals that are now making their way on a container ship to the children and families of St. Luke’s in Martel. Because of the risk of gang violence throughout Haiti, Rev. Owen asked for prayers that the ship can land and that the food can make its way to those who need it safely.
