Rotary Honors Students of the Month
Recently the East Haven Rotary Club honored their latest Student of the Month recipients for January, February, and March: Erica Canfield, Kayla Deluca, and Paul Carangelo Jr.
Erica Canfield has participated in track and field and plans to continue those sports in college, where she would like to study early childhood education or business. She also has an interest in becoming a coach for track and field someday. She currently also car races competitively at Waterford Speedbowl, which follows the footsteps of her father (who she races against) in this hobby.
Kayla Deluca is a member of the National Honor Society and the Hagaman Teen Advisory Group, which is peer mentoring for incoming high school students. She is also a member of several East Haven High School (EHHS) clubs: the Esports Club and competitive team, Kindness Club, and the Media Club. Kayla is planning on going to a four-year college to major in graphic design and perhaps fFilm.
Paul Carangelo is a member of the National Honor Society and the Future Business Leaders of America. He is a member of the EHHS baseball team and the travel AAU team while also involved in indoor track and field. He is also a teacher assistant in a CCD class. Paul would like to attend a four-year college to continue his academic and athletic careers.
Each month the Rotary recognizes a student from EHHS’s junior class. The club has recently been invited to make these presentations at Superintendent Erica Forti’s monthly district-wide Students of the Month assembly, which takes place on the last Friday of the month in the Media Center at East Haven High School. The East Haven Rotary Club presents each honoree with a certificate, a Rotary commemorative coin, and a check for $100. Winners then become eligible for the $1,000 Jack Leary Memorial Scholarship to be awarded at the end of their senior year. The club, now in its 84th year, was organized on March 3, 1939.
