NMCC Postpones Forum with Sandy Hook Mother

Press release from North Madison Congregational Church

What if we could prevent another community shooting from ever happening again? North Madison Congregational Church at 1271 Durham Road will be hosting Sandy Hook mother Scarlett Lewis to share her groundbreaking approach to social and emotional learning (SEL) and character development. The event was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 15, but has been postponed to a date to be determined.

Lewis’s program, Choose Love, is tailored for any age, from toddlers through adulthood, free of cost and put into practice in all aspects of life. Lewis developed the program after losing her son, Jesse Lewis, in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Originally designed for the classroom, Lewis’s approach has organically expanded into the home, sports, work, and community to help ease anxiety and strengthen relationships. The mission is to create safer schools and a safer world by teaching people how to use nurturing and healing love in any circumstance. By practicing social and emotional learning, we can all improve our culture and cultivate a welcoming, supportive, compassionate, and safe environment.

All are welcome to attend this upcoming event, and goodwill donations at the door will benefit chooselovemovement.org. Free childcare for children ages 10 and younger is available to registered participants.
