02/21/2023 03:31 PMAn arrest has been made after an investigation revealed that an adult male traveled to East Haven to meet up with what he thought was a 14-year-old female to engage in sexual activities.
The investigation, which was conducted by Detective Jon Trinh, began when an individual initiated communication with an undercover police officer posing as a fictitious 14-year-old female in an online text messaging app. Throughout the course of the conversation, the suspect, later identified as Halil Demiroz, 37, of North Branford, attempted to befriend the fictitious 14-year-old female before turning the conversation sexual. After a lengthy conversation laden with sexual overtones, Demiroz suggested the two meet up in East Haven to engage in sexual acts.
On Feb. 20, Demiroz agreed to meet the fictitious juvenile in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Main Street in East Haven. Instead of meeting the juvenile, Demiroz met with East Haven police officers who advised him that he had been chatting with undercover police officers throughout the duration of his conversations with the fictitious juvenile female.
Demiroz was taken into custody without incident and transported to the East Haven Police Department, where he was processed. Demiroz was charged with enticing a minor by computer, risk of injury to a minor, and criminal attempt to commit sexual assault in the second degree.
Demiroz was released on a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven court on Wednesday, March 1.
