02/10/2023 08:13 AMOn Feb. 3, National Wear Red Day was held in awareness of women’s heart health. The GFWC Women’s Club of North Haven decided to underscore the importance of women’s heart health by wearing red to its monthly meeting that took place at the North Haven Senior Center.
The GFWC Women’s Club of North Haven is largely a service organization serving the residents of North Haven and surrounding areas. During the past year, its members have completed numerous charitable projects. Among the 41 projects that were submitted to the state GFWC as reports, club members donated 11,706 hours to charitable works and $16,284 in in-kind donations.
Included among these donations were food items for the North Haven Food Closet and North Haven Community Services, toys and gift cards for North Haven Community Services, and a van load of school supplies for Clintonville School. Also included were diapers, wipes, and baby clothes sent to Mary & Joseph’s Place; backpacks filled with school supplies to BHcare for children in domestic violence safe houses; 400 paperback books, 84 calendars, socks, winter clothes, and holiday greeting cards for veterans in the Veterans Hospital, and other donations. The club will be providing another load of school supplies to one of the North Haven elementary schools in either February or March.
The GFWC (General Federation of Women’s Clubs) is an international organization with clubs across the United States and in many countries. The GFWC is committed to volunteer community activities that enhance the lives of others. The Women’s Club is open to women 18 and older who are interested in making a difference in their community through community service projects.
