74-Year-Old Pedestrian Dies in East Haven Traffic Accident
A recent motor vehicle accident in East Haven has resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The victim of the fatal accident has been identified as 74-year-old Nicholas Marino of New Haven.
On Dec. 28 at approximately 6:32 p.m., the East Haven Public Safety Dispatcher Center received a 911 call from a motorist who stated that he had hit a pedestrian in the 600 block of North High Street. Upon arrival of East Haven Police Department (EHPD) personnel, officers located an unconscious male, later identified as Marino, in a private driveway.
Officers immediately began life-saving measures until East Haven Fire Department personnel arrived. A preliminary investigation revealed that Marino had parked his vehicle along the north bound lane shoulder of North High Street and crossed the street, crossing over the southbound lane, where he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound in the southbound lane. Marino was pronounced deceased on scene.
The operator of the vehicle involved was not injured, stayed on scene, and fully cooperated with the investigation. North High Street remained closed for several hours while the South-Central Connecticut Traffic Unit investigated the collision. The driver of the vehicle has not been charged.
