Shots Fired at Guilford Home
On Dec. 22, the Guilford Police Department responded to Fernwood Drive for the report of a house being struck by gunfire overnight. The preliminary investigation revealed that the exterior of the residence was struck by several rounds at approximately 11 p.m. At press time, police believe that this was an isolated incident.
According to Deputy Chief of Police Chris Massey, the investigation remains active and any residents in the area are encouraged to check their surveillance devices for potential footage of any suspicious activity, pedestrian, or vehicle traffic captured on Dec. 21 between 10: 30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
According to Chief of Police Butch Hyatt, his department is actively investigating the incident, but he was reticent to release any details that might interfere with the apprehension of the individual or persons involved. Hyatt said it was simply too early in the process to make public statements or provide certain information.
“We are still investigating this. Obviously our detectives have a lot of work to do trying to determine who was involved or why,” Hyatt said.
Hyatt did confirm that shots were fired at the Fernwood Drive residence but could not provide further details, including whether the home was specifically targeted.
“Again, the detectives are working the case as we speak trying to determine the answers to those questions. We don’t have anything right now to release as to why this occurred, but our detectives are on it and working hard,” Hyatt said.
Hyatt also requested anyone with security devices or footage from around the time of the incident to contact police if they have any images that could be helpful. Fernwood Drive is off of Peddlers road not far from Route 1.
“That is one of the things we do in all of these types of cases. We are partnered with the Ring neighborhood too, we notify anyone that is part of the Ring app to share video with us. Today [Dec. 23] we have people going door to door looking for cameras,” said Hyatt.
Hyatt added, “I wish we had more information, but is still very early in the investigation. We are working the case and the detectives are actively on this and working hard on it.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Guilford Police Department at 203-453-8061.
