Cannabis Information Session Scheduled for Oct. 3
The General Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC) of North Haven is inviting members of the public to a free informational session on the medical use of marijuana and related materials on Monday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at the North Haven Congregational Church, 29 Church Street. The session, featuring speaker Dr. Michael Vessicchio, is designed to alleviate concerns residents may have regarding marijuana, cannabis, and related products, according to a press release from GFWC of North Haven.
Vessiccchio is the dispensary manager for Affinity Health and Wellness in New Haven with a B.S. in biochemistry and doctorate in pharmacy. According to the release, Vessicchio will speak on the medical uses of cannabis as well as the whole spectrum of cannabis uses as well as effects and side effects.
Last year, Connecticut legislators passed a bill that legalized recreational marijuana use by adults in the state. That bill left it up to local municipalities to control the possibility of a store opening for marijuana retail or for a growing operation.
According to state law, North Haven will only be able to issue one retail license and one “micro-cultivator” license until 2024. However, other licenses for cultivator, producer, manufacturer, delivery, and packaging are all permitted under the new law as well. The town can also choose to decline cannabis establishments. North Haven’s Planning and Zoning Commission has been discussing the potential for retail cannabis in town since March, with members of the public voicing both support and opposition to cannabis-based business.
Seating is limited, and reservations are required before the end of September. Anyone interested in attending the information session must call Pam Lerner at 203-671-5911 or Michelle Charm at 203-915-8990.
