After completing a “long, celebrated career” of 27 years of service with Branford Police Department (BPD), Lieutenant Patrick O’Malley was celebrated upon his retirement from the force on Thursday, July 28. The news was shared by BPD at its Facebook page.

“He has had a long, celebrated career here at BPD after starting October 1995. His greatest legacy at work, though, is the way he coached every officer under his command. He was one of the best role models for young officers due to his knowledge, compassion and humor,” BPD shared. “Lt. O’Malley was the supervisor everyone wanted to work for, be friends with, and have on calls with you. He always took the time to listen and explain while emphasizing trust and integrity (all of this usually accompanied by a joke or two). We will miss you!”

Branford Chief of Police Jonathan Mulhern, Deputy Chief John Alves and Branford First Selectman Jamie Cosgrove were among those helping to recognize Lt. O’Malley for his years of service.

The celebration at Branford Police headquarters also included members of both BPD family and those from Branford Fire Department, according to the post.

BPD also shared photos from the event, which can be viewed at https://www.facebook.com/branfordpolice

The news from BPD ended with the following note:

“Every roll call with Lieutenant O’Malley would end the same way, so it’s only fitting we end this post with his words: Make me proud out there!”
