Sizable Sycamore is a Branford 'Notable Tree'
The American Sycamore is one of the largest eastern hardwoods with an enlarged base, massive, straight trunk and large spreading branches forming a broad open crown. It can reach heights of 60 to 100 feet, and is characterized and easily identified by its mottled bark. No wonder, then, that a sizable sycamore is Branford Community Forest Commission's (CFC) latest selection as a Branford "Notable Tree."
The magnificent specimen pictured here is at Branford's Foote Park on Melrose Avenue, so take a walk in the park and you will see it. To find it, take the path to the right of the largest kids' play area and walk all the way to the rear of the park where there is a little circular path. This tree will be right off the path, looking away from the park.
Branford's CFC hopes to continue to share photos and information of additional Branford Notable Trees, to help increase public awareness of the importance of the town's trees.
