09/10/2024 01:41 PMBookworms rejoice. The Guilford Free Library’s (GFL) 43rd annual Book and Bake Sale is back from Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29.
Open to the public, the annual event is the largest fundraiser for the Friends of the Library, according to information posted to GFL’s website. The Friends have been gathering donated books and setting them up to be sold during the event, which features thousands of gently used books.
“The sale stands out for its high standards, variety, and organization,” according to the website. “Thousands of gently used books, chosen for interest and quality, are offered at unbeatable, pre-inflation prices.”
Additional donations will be accepted through Saturday, Sept. 14. A donation table is located at the back of the library.
The sale features books for kids, teens, , and adults, as well as puzzles, CDs, DVDs, and vinyl records. Fiction offerings range from classics to bestsellers, and non-fiction selections run the gamut from history to art, nature to sports, and cooking, religion, health, and much more. Young adults will find a variety of books, including graphic novels and Manga.
The book sale opens at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, and will be open that day until 6 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 28, the sale runs from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and the sale wraps up on Sunday, Sept. 29, running from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bake sale, held in the library’s lobby, runs on Saturday during book sale hours. Both Friday and Saturday will have live music, with bluegrass music and a performance from a jazz trio of Guilford High School students. On Sunday, all items still available will be half-price. Organizers remind shoppers to bring their own bags to carry home their purchases.
All proceeds from the sale support the library and its programs, including museum passes and the creation of a Library of Things, according to the GFL’s website.
